Throw The Fight – In Pursuit Of Tomorrow

Throw The Fight

Every so often at The NewReview we like to do a little throwback (as a reminder for you people that might have missed out) on some music that we are still getting down and dirty with long after its release. I am talking specifically about a band very well known as . These rockers out of Minnesota released their first full length album, In Pursuit Of Tomorrow, a little over a year ago. And let me tell you, if you missed out then, don’t make the same mistake twice. These guys are well on their way to the top; and after a prestigious mention in Alternative Press where they were voted as one of the Top 10 Unsigned Bands and a great debut album, I see nothing stopping them now. I sat down and really dug in deep with In Pursuit Of Tomorrow, and it still gets me just as fired up as it did the first time I heard it.

This record has an energy that you can feel right off the bat blasting out of your stereo. Track by track, they keep a level of momentum that drives their music right into your veins. “The Weakest Hour“ is a fast-paced, rocking little number with a hook that will slice through you cerebellum mercilessly, leaving its catchy chorus stuck in your head for days. “His Blood, My Hands” is the same way. This track has a nice little chug-a-lug with the guitars, a big chorus, plenty of energy, and a nice breakdown…which all make for a good time in my book.

Keep going, because “Stop Yourself” and” Into The Fire” are two songs that really deserve a listen. The guitar work on both of these tracks is charismatic and captivating, and the gritty vocals fit in with their style perfectly. There is just enough variation between singing and screaming in these songs, and the music follows along that path perfectly. The rapid, hot guitar chops throughout “Into The Fire” will make you lose your sense of space and time, so be wary going in.

If, by this point, you feel drained because you’ve spent the last half hour kicking your crap around your room and breaking windows, do not fret because “It’s For You” is a nice little tune to slow things down. While you’re at it, if you are into the more low key rock ballads, ”The Wreckage” and their closer, “Vital Signs,” would also be good tracks for you to check out. These songs are a little more mainstream and poppy for my taste, but don’t get me wrong, they’re still good songs. I like these guys better when they are going balls out, but I can handle a slower ballad every now and then I suppose.

Overall, I have always enjoyed these guys. Their music is fast-paced and upbeat, and their live show is just as energetic as their music. They are in the studio now tracking some new stuff that I’m sure will not disappoint, but as for now In Pursuit Of Tomorrow is plenty good enough to hold us over. If you don’t have this CD yet, buy it! Or at least visit their MySpace page and give them a listen. If you’re just looking for a couple songs for your iPod, “The Weakest Hour” and “Into the Fire” would be my picks. You will see much more of TTF in the very near future, so keep listening. You won’t be disappointed.
