Subhuman

Demolishing everything in its path on its way to the top of death metal ranks, comes a band out of Italy, known as Subhuman. Ready for a strong dose of metal, well, then Subhuman’s Profondo Rozzo album is for you!

The cd starts off with the title track, “Profondo Rozzo.” Right away, prepare to be slammed in the face by a menacingly, fast drum beat sure to rattle your bones! But just as your ears are beaten to a bloody pulp, the guitar kicks in and wails a quick scream to get the metal blood in your body flowing! This first track is relentless with its speed, brutality, and awesome-ness (is that even a word, oh well, it fits!) One thing hit me while listening to this album: I don’t speak, nor understand, Italian. You know what? It doesn’t even matter. I’m not going to probably sing along with this album, but that doesn’t mean I can’t throw up the horns and bang my head with its groove-riddled guitar riffs, and extremely fast percussion.

Yes, the lyrics are in Italian, but for those English speakers out there, it shouldn’t take away from your listening experience. While not understanding the lyrics, the vocals still come across clean, and mean.

“Nata Troia” is the next song on the album, and it shreds! Prepare for the attack on your eardrums, while you enjoy every second of it. This song is insanely fast. I was left wondering what just happened after hearing this song. It starts off fast and is over before you know it, but it’s a definite highlight on the album. The vocals complement the music extremely well on every track on the album.

While on the subject of the vocals, and musicianship, I’d like to take a moment to commemorate the cd and its strikingly solid production quality! I felt that everything was at a proper level, and that nothing was overplayed by anything else! I can only hope that other up-and-coming death metal bands can take a cue from this album when it comes to production.

“Trenta Denari” is another of my favorites from the album! It starts off with a very eerie sounding vibe, which is made even more evil sounding by a scream that can only be described as having come from the depths of Hell! This song will rattle your teeth right out of your head. Blisteringly fast, and just straight up brutal! Personally, I loved this track!

The rest of the album just flows together with brutality and evil! I haven’t listened to much music from this genre lately, but this album has definitely brought me back into the evil, death metal fold. And I feel very welcome. Seriously, if you’re a fan of death metal, or even just really aggressive metal, Profondo Rozzo deserves a listen, and then probably many more beyond that. The musicianship is top-notch. Unmatched guitar work, well-fitted evil vocals, and an outstanding rhythm section all combine for an impressive album release.
