HIM – Screamworks

HIM

I will be the first to admit that while effeminate rockers have never really been at the top of my must hear list, all the hubbub about their new album that has been circulating through my friends circle has struck my curiosities. Simply put, this frolicking, Finnish five piece has spent the greater part of the last decade releasing albums, and I have yet to be a fan of one song they’ve produced, which begs the question: why am I wasting my time and energy on their most current release, Screamworks? Well, I can’t really answer that, except to say that I keep hearing people say it’s different and better than the rest of their nonsensical musical disasterpieces. Since I have enjoyed their previous albums about as much as a root canal, for the sake of being fair, I am going into Screamworks open minded and free of personal discrimination.

The problem I have with (outside of their lack of fashion sense), is that their music, no matter how current, always comes across as dated. Overly simple, dated, unintelligent music that so many find brilliant, which seems to speak so poorly of our society. The day ’s music is considered brilliant and edgy is the day I wear a tutu and dance around singing Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” with my cat.

In 2005, I was enjoying a concert by a then favorite band of mine, (no comment), and I was subjected to my first experience. This was during their single “Wings Of a Butterfly,” which was not so terrible…that is, until they started playing it four hundred times a day and you realized that, in fact, it was a terrible song. Since then, I have lacked any desire to indulge this insane, talentless, freak show with even a fraction of my attention; until now that is, because I review music so it’s my job to listen. You might say that discredits my opinion because to truly appreciate you must know their history and their vision. Not true, you don’t have to know a band’s vision to know if their music is terrible.

This CD is mind numbingly bland and uninteresting; and just because you wear a blouse doesn’t mean you’re dark and mysterious. It means you shop in the women’s department, so unless your name was formally Prince, take a hint.

From the opening track of Screamworks, you feel like you are being mind molested by an out-of-date, coo-coo Finnish fairy in a blouse. Their wannabe Hot Topic, early decade goth style of music makes the sound of sick cats worthy of a Grammy. I don’t mean to be over dramatic, but it’s important that as many of our readers possible avoid this album.

Their synth rock, gothic ballads are predictable and overrated. Ville Valo’s vocals at times remind me of Davey Havoc () minus the talent, and his lyrics are even worse than his man-scara and wardrobe selection. Their single off of this release is a song called “Heartkiller,” and surprise, surprise, it sounds like every other song on the album. Cheesier than a homeless man’s grundle and much more gut wrenching. There’s a track called “Acoustic Funeral,” and my God, I’d rather sit through a real funeral than listen to this song again.

I feel like this album was exactly what I expected it to be and nothing more. has not changed – they are writing the same music just changing the names of the songs. I’m sure there will be thousands who disagree with my words, but those of us who require a little more depth to our musical experiences will appreciate my criticisms. If you think I’m over exaggerating, try me. Listen to a few songs, but don’t say I didn’t warn you. This is a must miss record; I lost the last 45 minutes of my life, so don’t make the same mistake. I’m holding an acoustic funeral for all of the brain cells they killed.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that was completely baffled by everyones attraction to HIM. They bring nothing new to the table at all. It sounds like music I heard years and years ago, and yet people today praise them like they're some amazingly innovative band.

Also, old Finch wasn't bad, but their newer stuff (Say Hello to Sunshine) was HORRIBLE.

Seems like (to me) that Bam Margera had a lot to do with hyping this band back in the day. Thank God THAT epidemic has passed.

    Oh Mr Tallman, shut up.
You wish you were as able to write such breathtaking melodies and had such a deep and vibrant voice as Ville Valo's wouldn't you?
The most hilarious part in your review is you mentioning Finch as an artistically huge band or perhaps that bit where you say that AFI is talented.
Bam sucks, and it's been well established, but this album rocks really sweet.
If you have issues with melodies it shall be YOUR problem, not the rest of the world's.

Also, your 1.5 score shows how much of a professional and objective music journalist you are. Have a good wank.

HIM's new album is unique and innovative and I'm not a fan of the band.
I just happen to appreciate good music when I hear it. And I must say
from the way you attack the band as well as Bam Margera you seem
to have some kind of personal hatred on them. This is your point of view
and obviously its a wrong one, so please do us a favor and keep it to your
self…or better you go listen Britney Spears because obviously you
will " appreaciate " her better, I'm sure. Especially the lower part of her
body. Learn to appreaciate good music, but again who gives a fuck of

HIM really isn't a horrible band like you make it out to be, and this album is definitely a little bit different. It has a little more of an upbeat to it and seems to be "lighter" than their older stuff. However, their dark light and razorblade kiss cd's were by far the best. Not too sure of this one yet, as I have not listened to the whole album. Either way, HIM will always be one of my favorite bands.

OMG I so can see u dancing all around your living room with your tutu… is it a black one, isn't it? Or better a pink one like Jeffree Star? Anyway, that day has arrived dude and a long time ago! So keep on dancing and keep the pace!

Ah, and yeah… more than "Single Ladies" it'd be better if you listen to Beyonce's Sweet Dreams so you can dream better about being an objective music reviewer! I guess it's not your cup of tea yet ;) Gotta grow up before claiming to be one!

Ok seriously, this is the poorest piece of review material I've ever read.
Screamworks is the greatest rock album thus far of 2010. Personally, as a fan of all HIM songs and albums, I see this as their best creation of all. It is their greatest production not only in a experimental sense, but it reveals a positive mood, reflecting the hope and trust found in love.
They have delivered the most original, melodious, darkly poetic, and sincerely magical rock-n-roll masterpieces over the past 15 years, and Screamworks is the biggest example of the answer to "What is Love Metal?" that so many people ask.
It flows effectively like a blend of 80s classic rock guitars and splendid melodies with a big splash of romantic lyricism by the master songwriter, Ville Valo. It reminds me of a modern day Dark Side of the Moon or Aerosmith's "Rocks" album, except more uplifting than anything I've ever heard.
You say you were going in this with an open mind…..well you didn't do a very good job my friend. As a rookie music writer, I must say I try to respect my peers.
However, you really should decide what you say before you say it, something you should have learned years ago. The idea of writing music reviews is not to degrade a band, but to produce constructive criticism. There is nothing wrong with giving opinions, of course, but total bashing is completely unnecessary. Especially towards a band such as HIM who has created some of the most unique rock compositions of the 21st century.
If you get upset for my brutal honesty, then maybe you should consider seeking out a new career.

Really? It makes you want to cry? Wow.

Do any of you "fans" of HIM seriously think the band gives a crap about any of you? Wow, it feels like someone dissed the Jonas Brothers, and all the teenybopper freaks are crawling out of the woodwork. Only they would never like the Jonas Brothers, because they are too "dark", "mysterious", and "mature" to ever like such a band. Now HIM, on the other hand, is sooo metal. So they can go shop at Hot Topic, get a cool scene hair cut, and rock a Heartagram temporary tattoo (you know, since they're not legally old enough to get a real one).

And then one day (maybe after college), they can realize that idolizing and worshiping a band was a huge waste of their time.

When I started reading this review, and read how you didn't like HIM's previous albums, I could understand why; a little dramatic and predictable. But when I heard their new album, I thought they did a LOT better than they did on their previous albums (though, I do like most of Venus Doom). And obviously, you don't like HIM at all, but that's what your problem is; you're blinded by hatred. You said you'd keep an open mind on their new album, but it doesn't seem like you did at all. If you compare their old albums with Screamworks, they've progressed and became a lot better than they once were.

It seems strange to me that someone would post a review of a cd that they scarcely mentioned. Taking this as an opportunity to vent your frustrations is not only highly unpalitable, but unprofessional. You don't like 'Acoustic Funeral'? Why? Because you're too busy trying to think of supposedly funny metaphors for what would be more fun for you? That's… lame.

It could, perhaps, take a certain type of person to enjoy their music, and as someone who believes everyone has a right to their opinion, I won't slag you because you don't like them, but because you couldn't express it without visual inuendos. Maybe it did rile up some fans, but I believe it made more pity you for your longing to be taken seriously.

Hey Ryan, I respect your opinion but I have to say this is one helluva unprofessional review dude. Critics are supposed to be open-minded towards all kinds of music and you are not one of them. Talking crap about Bam Margera or Ville's physique is very immature and it has nothing to do with 'Screamworks'. If you hate the band, we're obviously going to know that you're going to write a bad review. Why do you waste your time writing a review about a band you don't like? I love HIM because their music is good! When I first heard 'Screamworks', I didn't like the album because it sounded different from all the other albums but now, I love the album and listen to it everyday! Next time you write a review on HIM, try to get your facts straight about what the album is about and be more open minded on the album, rather than writing a sucky review that makes you feel like have a stick in your butt. (cuz literally, I thought you had a stick in your butt after writing this sucky review)

But maybe we should listen to what you have to say as you’re also a musician right? Yeah, I remember seeing your album in- Oh wait…What album? Yes, Your sparkling career as a musician has led you to this, Hate-Filled, Jealous rants about a band who, frankly, would piss all over the piss-poor efforts you listed as good bands!
And I’d like to know how a band that reference some of literature’s greatest names can be considered “Overly simple, dated, unintelligent…” I think you’re full of shit! You let your minions bash HIM fans who are, frankly, giving you more notice than you deserve and bumping up your hits!
The funny thing is, These fans wouldn’t give a shit about you giving the album a bad review if it was an honest, clean review that showed any faults you’d picked up on and then got on with it, But no, you chose to rant on, Paragraph after paragraph about how much you hate the band! Shame! All credibility you had (Which can’t have been much as nobody I know has ever even heard of you) went out the window the minute you referred to Ville as “coo-coo Finnish fairy in a blouse”- Tell me, are you a professional homophobe? Or is it a hobby?
I can’t see anyone with an IQ above 12 taking much notice of your review to be honest, I’d like to think that anyone with an ounce of sense would listen to the album and decide for themselves what they think about it rather than listening to the jealousy-fuelled tirade you puked up onto this web page!
Oh, One quick request? Could you enlighten us all, In your infinite wisdom and share with us what we’re all dying to know…Which of the band fucked your girlfriend?

The fact that HIM fans are coming and crying over it is actually sad and rather pathetic. Just the fact that you say things like "who fucked your girlfriend" are seriously immature. If he doesnt like the band, then fine, who cares! It shows that HIMS fans really need to look in the mirror and realize that they arent as "Grown up" as they think they are.

I may have a "darker" fashion sense but that doesn't make me any different from anyone else.
I don't see how you guys get off on trying to down-size a group of musicians, five highly talented and accomplished artists, who couldn't give two fucks what you say about their music!!
All these fans are pissed because you're the one being overly critical and insanely childish. You should be ashamed of the mockery you are making of yourself.
So what if we like HIM!
So what if their music makes us feel hopeful in a cruel world full of greed and hatred. So what if Valo's lyrics make us want to believe in love and ourselves.
Everyone has their own ways of coping with reality, our own place to fall back on when we need to be picked up from the negative aspects we face.
Not everyone is going to share the same musical tastes and opinions, so just get over it and get the fuck out of our lives, BITCH!!!

Wow, I just threw up a little bit….ugh.
I mean, complementing AFI in general is discrediting…
Not to mention that this review was hardly based on fact or the HIM album…you mostly based it off what seems to be your own personal hatred and..for some reason….wardrobe.
I like HIM, they aren't my favorite band, and I can understand you saying that they are cheesy, and poppy. They are in many ways.
However, you just downright insulted them the whole way through, and thats not right.
HIM is not the deepest band out there, no, but their songs are very poetic, and beautiful, most of them anyway, even if they are not the most thought provoking.
The point is, if you didn't like the band, just say "it isn't my cup of tea" or something. You can't go into a review of a band with a biased attititude.
    And to "Jen" ……
Shut up. The whole "scene kids" comment was incredibly stupid. Sure, there are some kids who love HIM who are like that, but don't be a stereotyping jerk. Thats all.

20 years old? You can't legally drink yet.

"who couldn’t give two fucks what you say about their music!"
And they couldn't give "two fucks" what you say about it either. They have their own lives and don't even know you exist. Stop worshiping a band as if they're God. They don't care a thing about you.

"So what if their music makes us feel hopeful in a cruel world full of greed and hatred."
Oh, TAKE AN ANTI-DEPRESSANT, will you? Oh, the woes of life. I'm deep, artsy, and disturbed by the dark under belly of society. SUCK IT UP and move on.

And as for that "hatred" comment, calling me a bitch isn't being nice, sweetheart. And it doesn't bother me either. I've long grown out of my deep, dark, depressive stage.

Really, who gives a shit about reviews! It's his opinion on how the album is, but to talk shit about stuff that doesn't relate to the album is quite useless. To all people who want to know how the new HIM album is, I say for you guys to listen to the album yourselves. Don't judge the album after 1 spin, listen to it a few more times and then ask yourself if you like it or not. I for one, absolutely love it!

First of all, who are you? I've never heard of you. Quite obviously, your friends have better taste in music than you do. Sounds to me like you have a personal vendetta against the band … what did Ville turn you down?

And really …. a lack of fashion sense … one could be said the same for Lady "Gag", so why don't you? Actually, I think the band dresses like typical rockers. I've never seen Ville or the others in a blouse; I have however seen Robert Plant wear one. I guess you don't think "effeminate" Robert Plant has any talent either.

You know, it's really obvious that you haven't listened to any of HIM's albums. You remind me of someone on the radio, interviewing an author, and not having read the book. And as far as a live band goes …. they are one of the best.

I like HIM so much .. and if you have at least a musical tastes good and really like music you probably like HIM too .. because Ville's voice is beautiful .. and has a nice tone .. the music of HIM are extremely well made and the tools are complementary and have a perfect sync, but if you do not have a good taste in music and posted this shit here .. I do not have anything to do with it ..

Well aren't we the one with some sand in the vagina??? LOL
Pleeeease. All you know how to do is be a bitch, at least on the internet, so the title fits you perfectly!!!!

Actually you don't know a damn thing about HIM or you would know that they very much care about their fans. Ville makes it a point to dedicate their music TO us. He saves every gift he has ever been given by a fan because he cares.
He IS the classiest "rock star" there is. None of the guys in the band have that typical rock star attitude, they're very down-to-earth people.

Oh and by the way, I like being the way I am. Mocking people only displays how much of an airhead you are.
And about that whole "Oh woes of life", FUCK OFF! Don't tell me you've never had your depressed days.
Picking on depression is like picking on someone with a disease. Would you make fun of someone with an eating disorder or someone with cancer? Didn't think so.
And yeah the world, if you haven't noticed lately, IS very dark and fucked up and full of hatred.
Have you been living under a rock or something??
It's not all rainbows and unicorns, or maybe it is for all the spoiled, rich brats like you.
Some of us actually have to work and deal with the world.
Thus enter HIM. A band who knows what it's like to experience tragedy. Valo takes his experiences and turns them into melancholic musical masterpieces.
Seriously I think all these haters are just jealous they could never measure up to something so spectacular.
An about drinking, who cares. I'll be 21 in June anyway. Plus I don't need alcohol to feel good. I get drunk off of my boyfriend BITCH. Oh no, I said it again….actually the word I'd rather use is much more vulgar so I'll give it to ya in Finnish : VITTU!!!!!

Im not younger than 25, im not a emo (whatever the fuck that is), i grew up with all the good ol 80s music. And i think HIM is a phenomenal band. Incredibly unique music. And those that bash on the fans, do you not know that music is universal, it can have the power to, lets say, save lives? So who the fuck do you think you all are to throw shit at a band, whos obviously made a career out of being musicians. HIM, in no way, should be compared to Beyonce. wtf.
& youre by far the worst reviewer ever. I am shocked you actually have this job. You have some kind of hatred, most likely from jealousy, because as these great musicians break their back making this music, living the good life, your ass complains about wasting 45 minutes. Well, guess what? FIND ANOTHER FUCKING JOB, Idiot. Your review doesnt mean much, because I know it comes from a mentally slow person. Good luck in life.

Wow, Ryan! You struck a nerve! Haha. I think it's funny how people get so bent out of shape over things like this. If you're a fan of HIM, hey, that's totally cool with me. If you play the album in your car while giving me a ride, I'm not gonna say anything. To each your own. If you ask for my opinion on the band and this album and I tell you the truth, don't get hurt over it. Everyone has their own opinions and they're entitled to them.

I appreciate peoples passions for their music. I have the same passion and that's why I write about the music I love. Hey, I don't have any sort of degree in journalism or writing. What I do have though is an opinion and I like to think I have a strong eye for detail. You could give me albums from my favorite bands and I'm going to be perfectly open and honest about my review of it. That's how I roll.

On the other hand, I think someone of you have stooped to a low that I wish fans wouldn't go to. Resorting to foul language and such is just childish. Alright, cool, so you disagree with Ryan's opinion. No problem. We welcome it! At least give some constructive reason as to why you disagree instead of resorting to telling him how much you want to kill him or how much his review "sucks". "Fans" like that make fanbases look bad. It's the epitome of high school behavior.

Like I said in another comment on here – You don't need a degree to express an opinion. Some of you should look back and read what you've written and evaluate it.

First off, I give my following opinion, not as a fan of HIM but as a fellow reader.

I just have to say that as music journalist who reviews new albums, you should be approaching a review with a completely open mind, you claimed to, however that pile of crap you decided to henceforth with before making said claim told us otherwise.

Also, i'd like to raise the point that you are REVIEWING AN ALBUM. This does not give you the right to make unjustifed comments on the band's image. You're supposed to talk about the feel of the songs, how the melodies work within them, the quality of sound etc etc… christ, I should have to tell you your job!

Finally, this isn't a plea for you to like the band, we all have individual tastes and freewill but it is your job to provide an unbiased review of an album to give an opinion for listeners to go on so that they make the decision to check it out. You have failed to do this and I am both shocked and disheartened that the industry has come to the point when pigheaded, talentless, ignorant fools like you are allowed to spew out your unjustified and quite frankly vile comments as so to influence listeners. A bad review is a bad review… fair enough… but I wouldn't even call this a review.

Well, Its safe to say I've smudged a lot of black eyeshadow with my words. Bleeding hearts of the world unite, by all means, how dare I speak sour of the almighty HIM. Lets make a few things clear…

First I cant tell you how little it bothers me that you all disagree with my opinion. Thats the point of the site, it's an opinion based forum where people can speak their minds, it's called freedom of press so please disagree.

Second, I write music reviews, I know my ethical boundaries and I respect them however if I want to have a little fun squashing a flame ignited by a band that receives entirely too much credit for their sub par music, I feel completely justified to do so. Its not unprofessional, its typical for this industry and if you cant take the heat stay out of the kitchen.

Third, HIM's wardrobe (so to speak) is part of their image, therefore an attack on said wardrobe is directly related the their sound and vision. If their music was great they might be able to get away with it, but its not, so therefore their style (and clothing) is ripe for judgement. I'm not a homo-phobe by any means, frankly I could care less and just to get it straight (forgive the pun) I didn't insult his sexuality, I insulted his style, so get it right.

I stand by my opinions, I feel no remorse for my words and I'm glad people are reading and seem to be interested in what I have to say. You can call me names and insult me if they helps but its wont change the fact that HIM is an awful band that have been riding on BAM's coattails for long enough and if they cant step up and release some semi-intelligent music its only a matter of time before the rest of the world moves on…I think most of us ( present company excluded ) already have.

Lastly, If you really think "I'm" pathetic please take a moment to read the posts of your fellow HIM worshiping peers and think if I would have given this album a stellar review you'd be calling me a genius not an asshole. HIM produces fans like you which is why they must be stopped before its too late.

Thanks for reading! oh and by all means please feel free to continue insulting me below…

    God Bless….

There's no doubt that HIM has talent. Like Ryan, I've never been a fan of HIM and I doubt that will change. One time I had a friend that was bent on getting me to like an artist but every time I gave them a chance, it just wasn't my thing. Regardless, he would continue to say "well, you need to listen to this album of theirs", etc.

It's kind of like saying "you should repeatedly jump into this pit of fire until you are engulfed in flames", despite the fact that I'm wearing the most flame-retardant suit ever created.

I who am in college for journalism knows that this would never be printed in a real magazine or any thing else that some one with a brain would read. i just came because i was told it would piss me off, but in reality it just shows how uneducated and how badly this site is ran to put some thing that attack the fashion of a band wile reviewing a album. i might go read more reviews on this site but if its any thing like this and completely disrespectful to another band i will have to just say good bye. and not waste my life wondering how old you have to be to write for you guys.

Ok, so I read a couple of reviews here, including this one. And, it has been said before, but again; whoever posted this review, needs to realize that you're actually supposed to keep your personal opinion to yourself. This is poorly done, and I indeed think this person was blinded by former hatred towards the band. It's an inconvenient wall of ignorance, and it is hard to conquer. And as a professional you're supposed to be able to have none of those blocking walls.
I guess that if you really listen closely and open your ears, it's not so hard to see that this album is quite good. I am myself not a fan of HIM, heard about them a few years back through an old friend and that's it. But hearing Screamworks with my friend makes them grow on me. Valo's voice is ridiculously great, they all play excellent, and the songs are beautiful. So why do you diss them? The "I cry because you dislike HIM"- part is somewhat I must agree, a bit overdone, though people may have a special way of loving them. I don't know, although I have been in cases where bands such as Dream Theater and Bathory have been life saviors, and so the wiping HIMsters may feel the same when somebody starts dissing something that means so much to them – again, I don’t know, just trying to see it from a different point of view.

    Ryan,

In response to your last comment:

Whilst I agree, some fellow fans seem to have come up with some less than intelligiable comments and yes HIM is one of those sort of bands to have a wide following, many fans are young and such but that's by the by.

It's not that I disagree with your opinion on the album, personally it is because of the way you have produced your review. You seem to go on about how simple the songs are, how easy they are… well, so? Sometimes the simplest of songs can be the best. Music isn't just about technicality, it's about reflecting emotion through song… it's the science of sound.

Also, yes some people follow this image of wearing makeup, wearing clothing that isn't the norm, hell, of course there's guys who take a more feminate approach to their wardrobes… but HIM aren't the first, if anything it's all inspiration on bands such as Kiss and Black Sabbath.

My point being, even if it was a band that I could not stand for the life of me, I would still be here making my point heard because I feel your review is invalid and unjustifed.

I can't sleep coz I'm still listening to that "horrible" album which is called Screamworks: Love in Theory and Practice.

Ok. Now, seriously. I'm not pissed off… ok, well, maybe at the beginning I was a little bit. But anyway, I was saying I'm not pissed off because you don't like Screamworks. This is not the point. I'm an Huge HIM fan and there're quite a lot of things I don't like about them such as the latest Heartkiller video.

I don't want to be their knight in sparkling armour… HIM doesn't pay me to defend them and shit like this. I would have done this even for another band I don't give a fuck about.

The disturbing thing of this so called review is that you can't claim it to be one since it's not. Here the man's not discussing the album, it's insulting which is very different; he's not talking about Linde, Mige, Gas and Burton's work on the CD, he's just insulting Ville. The Ville man is a grown up so he doesn't need to be defended, but hey, what's the point between comparing his vocals to his wardrobe? Ok, he wanted to be ironic, I love irony, but it need to be supported by something else and here he seems to use irony coz he didn't know what else to say. This seems to be a reveiw written just because he wanted to throw some shit about HIM and not the album which is deeply different.

I run an HIM site and we usually post all the reviews we find about HIM even the negative ones coz it's good when people can discuss and exchange opinions… mostly, sometimes fans need to know that not all the world loves HIM. But, really, in this kind of review, what can you discuss? There's no technical skill reveiw here but just Ville's taste on fashion. This is what pisses people off. At least, for me the reason is this.

I love HIM and their music which is an important part of my life so far not just because of them but for the people I met thanks to their music. It's annoying to be considered "teeneagers" or whatever just because you come here to spend just five words to "defend" your fav band.

Yeah, ok, HIM myabe won't give a fuck about fans – I suppose this is something even your beloved bands don't do – but ok, who cares? There isn't a band in this world which does.

And yeah, honestly I didn't read any of your reviews here coz I'm 'scared to deat' to know if they're all like this but I will read some of them. Wanna check if being objective is just a Ryan man problem. As for me, I can't be more objective than this. I love Screamworks more than their prev albums but, hell, de gustibus. On the prev records there're some songs Im not a huge fan of as long as some videos. This is just a matter of taste… 50% & 50%. I can and must accept the fact that people can have different opinions but I won't accept the way they tell them if this wants just to be insulting and nothing more. I guess this is the real problem of this review. Again, some of my best friends hate Screamworks but I didn't start crying even if 3 of my 5 tattoos are HIM related and I travel all around EU just to see them live. So, please, acknowledge me to be more than a big baby. I'll keep on living even without any of you liking SW.

Anyway, here in Italy it's something like 3 am and I'm really tired now and in less than 6 hours I'm gonna have an exam but I just wanted to clarify my point of view which I hope has been… hope everything is clear. It's late. I'm tired. I don't know what I wrote.

Ok you really want more? AWESOME!!! LMAO

First: Your definition of the industry is piss poor. Some companies would fire your ass for your unprofessionalism. So be lucky that you were able to make it as opinion-based as you wanted.
"The heat of the kitchen" is being able to stay on your toes with an open mind as a writer, which you obviously cannot attempt.

Second: Their fashion doesn't have a fucking thing to do with the way their music sounds you idiot!!! Are you THAT blinded by your own shallowness?
And i don't think you've really actually listened to HIM's music or you would know that no 2 albums sound alike, and Valo's lyrics are inspired by great literary authors of the romantic period. You obviously haven't been doing your research very well or you'd know see the poetic and deeper meanings of their songs.
Valo is a highly intelligent person, not many rock stars can speak Finnish and English fluently.
He is one in a million amongst the songwriters of rock-n-roll, and HIM is like no other band you'll ever hear again. I don't believe I've ever heard of any other love metal band…have you dear?

Third: About Bam, they've never "ridden on his coattails".
He simply discovered them in Finland, THAT'S IT.
He didn't produce anything or mix any songs, or manage the band like you probably think, he only directed 4 videos. THAT'S ALL!
He's a famous fan who likes to promote them because they're fucking amazing!!!

And I'm sorry to disappoint you darling, but us HIM fans ain't going no fucking where. We ride with HIM til death \ m /

    Alfred,
Honestly, if you base the intelligence of all of the reviews on this website on one review that rates the latest album of your favorite band poorly, I would say it's your loss. All of us have our own writing styles and come from different walks of life in both location, tastes, eras, musical background, etc. We welcome opinions and sometimes reviews just aren't pretty. We're fans like you guys all are and the only difference between us writers and you guys is that we write our opinions here. There is never any right or wrong opinion. Look at my latest review for Diminished 7's debut album for instance. I gave it 2.5/5 stars. It just didn't do it for me and that's a band that has been compared to HIM. Regardless, the album remains in my playlist and I'm a fan of the band's Facebook page. I look forward to their future releases and I still listen to some songs on the album.

It's just the way it goes. Some reviews are stellar, and with others nobody gets out alive. We're critical and try not to sugar coat anything.

    Julia,

On this entire thread you have shown less class than anyone else. You stand out to be the most ignorant, one sided, disgustingly vulgar person who I have had the misfortune of interacting with. You have no defense other than to insult. You need to realize that Ville will never be with you, his music wasn't written for you, he does indeed get a paycheck which might be why he play music, hmmmm….anyways I digress, oh and he doesn't care that you sit in your bath tub every night, under candlelight, cutting yourself in his name. Please do yourself a favor and remove yourself from this conversation because you are getting entirely to upset over nothing and your making yourself look horrible..

in response to this site, this is what we want, interaction. Of course I'd prefer it to be more positive but you cant win em all I suppose. God knows I knew people would disagree but I had no idea so many would be offended. I cant leave my house. An angry mod has burned a heartogram into my front yard and they are waiting for me.

People, I have heard many of HIM's album because like I said, I have friends that listen to and enjoy their work. I however do not. The fact that you all seem to be obsessed with the wardrobe comments is the strangest thing to me. Its like I insulted your moms. I get it, you all hate me and think I'm an uneducated moron, but like I said would you feel that way if I gave this album a good review? no, you wouldn't. You are doing the same thing to me that you are crucifying me for doing to HIM. You don't know me or my education but you do know you want to tell me how terrible I am because you disagreed with what I had to say.

Isn't that the same thing I did in my review? I expressed how terrible they are because of MY opinion of their music. This might be an extreme case of the pot calling the kettle black.

Stay tuned for Julia Stephensen's very dramatic and vulgar response …:)

everyone has an opinion, even a reviewer. as for the comments such as "so unless your name was formally Prince, take a hint" it has me wondering if you know why they're known as HIM, and why they have the "heartagram" symbol. let me note that it is not a personal attack towards you, just a question i wanted to ask over-all.

do i enjoy this album? absolutely. do i see your side on your review? yes. it is your opinion. you're entitled to it.

yourself, jen rochester and lee, all have a right to your opinion. no offense to who may be reading this, but i do love this band a lot. a good majority of my friends in real life have been made through this band, as is done with other fans of musical artists. the way some HIM fans are flocking to this and getting in an argument because someone decided to trash this album is just ridiculous. do you not understand how childish it makes you look trashing someone and calling them names just because they trashed your favorite band?

i have loved this band for the past ten years and they're not my favorite. i do not shop at hot topic, i do not hang out in the goth culture. sadly this band will always be attached to that genre and always made fun of for their made-up genre of "love metal", which was just used to shut up interviewers asking about the type of music they play. it's a joke. they know love metal isn't a real genre. everyone should all know that not all HIM fans will give a shit about a negative review.

you guys keep doing what you're doing over here – the new review that is. everyone else needs to relax and do something constructive. there is more to worry about in the world than someone's personal opinion on a review.

the band would most likely care less about the review and wouldn't waste their time attacking a reviewer. it isn't in their nature.

Okay I totally respect your opinion on the album and you have the right to write the review any way you want to. I just wish that you have actually described the music and what was wrong with it.

You said it was dated and simple and I just want to explain that most HIM fans have a deep love for classic rock and metal and so it being 'dated' is a good thing. Few bands have that 80's sound without it being too cheesy. Now I am a HIM fan to the core, (and yes I do dye my hair funky colors and wear the darker clothes but that is simply because I feel more comfortable that way. I have tried to dress normally and I just don't feel as good without expressing myself. Maybe that says something about my maturity, but really who am I hurting by wearing black a lot?) But I will say that I wish they would come to their full potential as a band. They're music is painfully overproduced and you can barely hear the bass sometimes and you have no idea how sad it makes me when I love the melody but it's so hallow because it's so mixed.

As for being simple, simple isn't always bad. Some of the best blues songs are mind numbingly simple. Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple is extremely easy to play and freakening Richie Blackmore wrote it. They also do have more complex songs, but they are far and in between. They are capable of being very inventive and experimental but we only got a taste of that on the Venus Doom album.

This band is more down to earth and caring for the fans than any other band I've seen. Ville is extremely humble despite the fact you think being a poster boy for so long would try him into an ego manic. They have a lot of talent, but I will say that some of their fans really put a bad name on the band and most of the time those people don't even stay fans. They move onto the next fad in the 'alternative' scene. You just have to pretend they don't exist, that's what I do. You'd be surprised if you met some real HIM fans.

I will not say they are the most original, or the best band in the world because that is ridiculous. But I will say that their music and lyrics (no matter how corny or simple) helps me more than any other band I've heard. You should know that their music does so much more good than any annoyances the fans may cause you. I see this review as more of a hate of their image than their music, which is fine but remember that there are sane fans out there who are saved by this band. It may be sad or pitiful to you that we are so uplifted by their music but it's a fact that they cause more good than harm. If you just don't like the band than just leave the review to someone else, because with every band there are immature teeny boppers that will get their panties in a twist when someone challenges their opinion.

I will say that I think if Ville read this, he would think it was funny and not be the lest upset so that's kind of the way I feel about it. Thanks for the laugh.

while I am a fan of HIM( a huge one at that) the majority of the comments made by the fans make me want to hang my head in shame. I mean, yeah, defend your band but don't sound like an idiot. What are you, six?
Anyway, an opinion is an opinion, if you don't like this guy's, go somewhere else and whine. HIM is the greatest band ever and the worst band ever to someone else. Don't get butt hurt.
My two cents: Instead of talking about what the band looks like and saying that you hate the songs try to be a bit more descriptive. Give it a bit more and maybe say"instead of this why don't they do 'da-da-da blah blah blah"
Because it makes you look unprofessional and what not.
I'm not offended that you dislike HIM or anything, everyone likes and dislikes different things.
The album, I enjoyed very much after a few listens. It's took a while to get used to but I didn't hate it. Now as for Dark Light… that's a different story….

I am a long time fan of HIM, and though the review was a bit over the top for my liking, I can't understand why you are being attacked for a simple opinon. I, personally dislike the album as well. It is over-produced and lacking a lot of what I have loved about this band over the past decade, but there was no reason, whatsoever for the attacks on you personally, or the jabs at your writing skills, or personal character.

It gives those of us, who are true fans of the music, and not Ville's looks, a bad name. He is a man who is no more perfect than anyone else in this world. He has his quirks, as do we all. I would like to believe, if Ville is as open-minded as all his fans like to think he is that he would be offended at the behavior displayed by some of the commenters on here.

In the end it is about the music, not a fashion style, or lack thereof. While it may have been more acceptable by a lot of HIM fans if the review had been more about the music, there was still no call for the way everyone, even members of this forum to react and bait each other into fights. Agree to disagree and leave it at that.

I feel sorry for those of us who appreciate the good and the bad reviews get such a bad name from people thinking they are defending a group of guys, Ville in particular, in reality ladies and gentleman you only added fuel to a fire that didn't need to be started in the first place.

In the end, Ville Valo is a grown man and he can fight his own battles, if he chooses to do so. While it is well and good to want to defend something you care about there is also a respectful and tasteful way to do so. Shakes was right, it isn't in the bands nature.

Ryan, thanks for being open-minded about all of this, and attempting to remain impartial to some of the slurs out there. I hope you know there are a few fans of this band that can take the criticism along with the glory the band recieves.

Wow. I think that is difficult to be objective when talking or writing on any topic. This is only the "writer" personal point of view. I don't find a real review of the album mentioned. I heard the album, and I like some their albums more than others. What I don't find accurate and in my opinion is unrespectful is the need to qualify HIM's listeners. I must say that I don't like labels, and I feel far from the categories some of the people here want to give to people who listen to HIM. Teens, emos, gothics, etc. First, I am not a teen, I finished college, I work, and feel free to watch, read or listen to what I want. From the beginning I find expressions like: "effeminate rockers", "why am I wasting my time and energy" makes me feel confused when at the end of the introduction I read "I am going into Screamworks open minded and free of personal discrimination," I call this, lack of coherence and leads me to the point that the writer wants to show objectivity but I guess he failed in the attempt, is not professional to say something you know you're not able to get.
"HIM has not changed" I disagree, I have listened to all of HIM's albums and in my opinion the sound changes a lot from one to the other, and comparing AFI's frontman with Valo only shows a poor knowledge of HIM's leader talent.
I learnt that when writing I must know the topic on which I am going to do the task, (the "writer" admits he doesn't know HIM's music) my critic is, I respect your opinion, but before writing about anything, go and study, listen, read, on what you pretend to criticize, is not nice to read a "review" that is not one, is not nice to find a promise of objectivity when you don't find it anywhere in the text, I don't find real criticism with enough support.
I have found non pretty reviews on many albums, but much better written than this one, is possible to do it, keep trying.

You are doing the same thing to me that you are crucifying me for doing to HIM. You don’t know me or my education but you do know you want to tell me how terrible I am because you disagreed with what I had to say.''

Nope. That's you putting words in our mouths.

I (and most of the HIM fans) don't want you to write a good review unless you really like the album. We just wish you hadn't been so childish.I'm not trying to put up a fight or anything like that. But I think your review lacks an actual point of view you know? You were just rambling and venting it seems. As if you weren't professionally commited to it.That's what upsets us(well,at leats I believe I speak in the name of the majority of the fans).

It would be equally annoying if you had writen a good review based on Ville's look and not on the album itself.Like ''Wow,Screamworks is a 'must listen' because Ville Valo is soooo hot!'' you know? That would upset me just as much.

And yes,of course we were all bothered by your comment about their clothes. We don't want to believe that a so-called writer, who supposedly knows the music industry,is actually concerned about such a stupid topic.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. So what if the review is harsh? Can't please everybody. Do you think Ville or any of the other guys care about a bad review? They're still making money either way. Leaping down the reviewer's throat because he shared his honest opinion isn't going to make you a more loyal fan or anything.

Look I'm not who you think I am at all because you've never even met me. You describe me as a wrist-cutting, Ville-obsessed goth chick. Dude I have a boyfriend ok. We've been together for almost 2 years and he's the one who turned me on to HIM's music.

Yeah, Ville is definitely my musical idol, but NO I don't think that he wants me like some crazy psycho bitch.
I got a man that I'm perfectly happy and very much in love with.

No shit, Ville gets a paycheck DUH!!!! That doesn't take a rocket scientist sweetie. But he does however love his fans, he's not stuck-up and selfish like most rock stars. He is a genuine sweetheart and all HIM fans now it.

Also, I appreciate the fact that Ville is very loyal to his fans. That's the way it should always be, in my opinion. Without fans bands would be nowhere. There are plenty of other bands and musicians that should be recognized as well.

Take Trent Reznor from Nine Inch Nails and Radiohead for example. Both of them are heavily devoted to their fanbase and go over and above the norm to hear what people have to say, and to give back to their fans. With their album In Rainbows, they allowed the listener to name their price for the album purchase. You could literally type in the price you wanted to pay and that was it. You could type in a zero and there would be no problem. Aside from that, Radiohead went completely solo and separated from any sort of record label. They keep the wheels turning on their own and continue to give back to the fans.

I know it's off topic but I think those are some admirable examples of giving back to the fanbase. In no way am I trying to take away from what Ville does, but I thought it was appropriate to highlight what others do as well.

I have listened to the album every single day, multiple times a day, since it was released. Acoustic Funeral happens to be my favorite.

Oh, Ryan, don't you realize your review could have been a lot more effective if you'd stuck to the actual subject of the album? I mean specifics of the songs and less getting into appearances and pulling in things that have little to do with a music review. Face it, HIM fans are hardcore devoted, that's just not going to change. If you really want to discourage listeners, being more specific about what you find unworthy would accomplish that better than going on an attack mode.

You are, of course, entitled to your opinions and have the right to express them. It just doesn't seem as if it's going to be a very musically informative review from the beginning, since you make it clear you _really_ haven't liked their previous music. It's opposite of, while being the same as having a review up by someone who's loved and purchased all of their previous music.

I don't have any particular reaction one way or the other to your review, I doubt it'll affect album sales or people going to HIM shows. I know it was considered hilarious by many and if they did hear about it, the band members, especially V would get some good laughs.

I haven't read anything else you've written, but sweetie, I think for your own sake you should just chill a little bit and try to stick to business, if this is typical of your writing.

Have you EVER heard of Baudelaire or have you EVER read a book that has at least SOME depth? I doubt that. This review is so superficial… how can you say that every song on the CD sounds like the first single 'Heartkiller'? It's just not true. Maybe you didn't listen to it close enough 'cause you were already prejudiced against HIM… I don't know. I don't want you to LOVE the album and it's alright to write a 'bad' review, if you consider the music to be 'bad', but I would have expected at least a LITTLE bit of professionality. So please don't bother the world with your opinion on HIM's clothes or whatever… that's a matter of taste and has nothing to do with their new album.

I always thought writing a review means, writing about an album and its songs, not about subjective opinions.
    Maybe I'm wrong.
You only mentioned 2 songs of the album, and there is just your personal opinion, and nothing more.
You are insulting, not objective, sorry.
You should quit your 'job', or begin with writing real reviews.
Oh, and I'm not a Him fan, and 39 years old, so the 'fangirly insult' doesn't work here.
What about deleting your so called review, and try writing a real one?
One without mentioning Ville Valo as a non – talented guy with eyeliner, or idiot Margera related in any way??
Just the songs in a real objective critic.

The passion with which you hate the band is interesting, and I must say amusing. In all this I see no professionalism and I would take this review more seriously if I did. I don't mind you no liking the album. Everyone is entitled to torture their own ears with whatever they want (like AFI…) but this is absolutely childish, unprofessional and hilarious. I wish I had a chance to talk to you just to see your hissy fits when you talk about how crap HIM is lol I bet you have lady rage attacks lmao

Huh. Well that was interesting. I have to say I was amused by the ridiculous insults that the reviewer came up with. My favorite was "you feel like you are being mind molested by an out-of-date, coo-coo Finnish fairy in a blouse." I laughed a good bit over that one. And the tutu thing. I would love to see that.
But I'm confused as to where the actual review of the album is. I get you don't like it, and though I did enjoy the randomness of the insults, it seemed like you were bashing more than reviewing. I am happy you did your review, though I may disagree with your opinion because I love the album and the band, simply because it was amusing.
I was a bit sad reading some of the HIM fan comments because they were bashing for bashings sake. I don't like that sort of behavior. It makes it worse for other fans that wish to express their opinions. And though I can understand that many fans felt entitled to bash you since you bashed something so dear to them, it doesn't make it right. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
I was also offended by some of the comments about HIM fans in general. I am not "goth, emo, etc." I do not shop at Hot Topic. I didn't cry over this bad review (well maybe tears of laughter :D ). And I'm not planning on burning a heartagram into your frontyard (though the idea is quite funny). I'm a big fan of many genres of music and HIM just happens to be at the top of the list. I may be only 20, but it doesn't mean that I get all "fangirlly" about HIM. I like the music, will go to a concert, and will enjoy spending time with my friends. I could care less about whether or not Ville notices me or whatever. He, Mige, Linde, Burton, and Gas create a great show and are very devoted to their fans. I know none of the comments were made towards me personally, but it is insulting that you and others would lump all of us together due to age or style.
With all of that said, I'm definitely going to save this site and check out the other reviews later since I do need to get some sleep. Have a nice day :D

I am a major HIM fan and teen years are far behind me…so let's not insult teens, we all were once…and Ryan, and Daryn and Jen ( well, she still acts like one but that's cool). Teen attitude goes with teen years, right?
And Ryan has every right to share his opinion with us, and how we will take it it's up to us. Personally I couldn't care less about his review, or a hundreds of similar reviews, cause I like new album, so much! And no hater or bad review can change that. I don't think it's their best album and I don't like Acoustic Funeral either, but their music is definitely my cup of tea! The thing which bothers me is why waisting your time and energy on things you don't like? You said it took 45 minutes of your life and yet you spent some more writing this "review"…sorry but I don't get it. I think you should at least respect artist's work and efforts even though you don't like his work. I mean there are a lot of other things you can sharp your criticism on, like global worming or wars or whatever. Lets not spoil the good things.

How old are you Ryan, and exactly WHO are you?? Your a run of the mill music reviewer who only says good things about music EVERYONE knows, you know that pop crap, the drivel our local radio insists on making us listen to…

Im from Australia, so maybe your not important enough to have reached a worldwide audience or for anyone to take your reviews and opinions seriously. That's ok everyone must starts somewhere. No im no emo, young child, Im a mother of 4 children, I grew up in the 70's 80's, the exact era HIM draw they're influence from. Having been lucky enough to meet these guys on Monday in Sydney, my respect for them has gone tenfold. They are not here to impress you, or any other music critic, they are here for their fans, see they signed and smiled and spent hours over the set time just to please us fans, there was no make up, no snobbery, no glamour. They just were happy and nice, in my experience with bands and at my age its been quite a few, I was humbled that they made the time to give us their time, they didn't have to, no they could have stayed for the hour and a half that was set out…

But see that's what this band does, they write these songs for us, not you,
and if you really wanna get down and dirty Ryan, those guys could pull more chicks in their sleep then you could in a lifetime… I could get nastier, but thats your job not mine… I can only assume your "review" of say Lady Gaga would be way different hey?? Will you throw around the gay references to her? I bet not.

ANYONE can write a music review, hell my 11 year old could, but it takes a real man to write one without insults and childish talk.

2 years ago I seen HIM in Sydney, and then I seen them live again on Monday night, the audience had doubled since 2008, TO ME THAT SAYS IT ALL, they just get better and better…

I have no doubt you will delet this due to its negative comments to you and the adoration to this band you so despise.. but all i want is for you to read it, don't care what you think. IN HIM WE TRUST! ;)

Im a regular to this site and I must say that I love the fact that ALL these guys take punches and have fun with their reviews. Thats what makes this site so different and so much better than others is because they review on a personal level.

All I have to say is to the Julia girl. So its an admiration thing huh? If I was to take the last name of Christ or Ghandi, people would say that I was a fringe lunatic. Well, I admire him, so everyone should understand my feelings…correct? WRONG! What if someone admired Hitler or Dahmer…(yes I know they were horrible people. But, believe it or not, there are people out there that actually like them sadly) if they took there last name….isnt that a little strange? Maybe a little bit on the "fringe" of cookiness or deranged? Yea, well I think so too :)

    Just sayin'
Your website rocks and this will ONLY help you out, keep up the great work.

I challenge all of you to find one source YOU find credible that hated this album and send me the link to that review…. because you will not find one intelligent person that has even a hint of musical knowledge to say this band is brilliant.

With the exception of a few fans that have shown quite a bit of class you are all a bunch of brainwashed mindless zombies who have taken my blast to band in an unbelievably personal manner that i can only attribute to the fact that you are incapable of forming your own opinions and your so dumb or childish that it takes an artist like HIM and their simplistic, mindless writing style to communicate to your teenage angst.

I hope you realize that everyone not commenting thats reading this is laughing hysterically at you and you pathetic rantings.

    "The Path"

There is no turning back from this unending path of mine
Serpentine and black it stands before my eyes
    To hell
and back it will lead me once more
It's all i have as i stumble in and out of grace
I walk through the gardens of dying
    light
And cross all the rivers deep and dark as the night
Searching for a reason why time would've passed us by
    With
every step i take the less i know myself
Every vow i break on my way towards your heart
    Countless times i've prayed for
    forgiveness
But gods just laugh at my face
    And this path remains
    Leading me into solitude's arms
    I see through the
    darkness my way back home
The journey seems endless but i'll carry on
The shadows will rise and they will fall
    And our
    night drowns in dawn
Amidst all tears there's a smile
That all angels greet with an envious song
    One look into stranger's
eyes and i know where i belong
    And the path goes on…

    "Sleepwalking Past Hope"

I hid the keys to unlock love's heart
To hold you in my sweetest pain and suffering
Everything's unfair in our lust and war
    Redemption beyond right and wrong

In our hearts love keeps sweet-talking to despair
And goes on sleepwalking past hope
All is lost in this war
And all we can do is to wail and weep to the saddest song
    Sleepwalking past hope

I unlit the light to embrace the dark
To be near but not to turn into you my darling
Forever we're lost in our souls' storm
    Reflections of each other's faults

    I gave up long ago
    Painting love with crimson flow
Ran out of blood and hope
So I paint you no more

My hell begins from the 10th and descends to the circle
    Six hundred threescore and six
And from there I crawl beneath Lucifer's claws just for one last kiss

we could do this all day…but im done…

I've been a hardcore him fan since 99 (razorblade romance) and not from the moment americans discovered it in 2000+. They had a different energy back than. I went to their concerts all over Europe and bought all their singles and albums till Dark Light. Untill they wanted to conquer America they were ok. After that they started being very very shitty. Ville nowdays looks very bad and exhausted. I hate all the nowdays hardcore fans that say that no matter if their albums are shitty they must praise them and say that Ville is so cute and sexy although he looks terrible.. maybe he is ill or god knows what's with him. This is a very immature way of seeing things.. but don't worry, you will grow up :) .
For me their best works are still their first 2 albums. That is their true magic. The next 2 ones are ok too but after that.. beginning with dark light everything changed in worst. I still enjoy 1-2-3 songs from each album since dark light but not whole albums like before that.
Be more realistic people. Music changes, people change.
    Take care

Tell me Ryan have you ever written a song? And I mean a song that was listened to by millions. Has any of your albums gone platinum, have you any idea what it takes to write a song?? I could keep these questions going all day and night, but we both know the answer, it would be NO… The great and wonderful thing about music is the choices we have… I don't like pop music, but I don't go slamming anyone who does.

Maybe maturity will help you with this I don't know. See I don't care one way or the other if you like any of HIM's music or not, thats your choice, but to insinuate any of the guys in HIM are gay and also attack Bam is a tad childish.. If you are going to make music reviewing a career, you need to learn to be objective, open to all types of sounds and just write about that… If you need to criticize a bands dress sense then do fashion reviews…

And to all the HIM fans, don't lower yourselves by behaving like he did, it's silly and wont make any difference to his opinion, yeah he is an ass, so what… I for one don't want HIM to go main stream, so the less that like them or listen to their music the better… We are a force to be reckoned with for sure, but Ville and the boys wouldn't give this boy the time of day, so we shouldn't. Like I wrote before I've never heard of this Ryan boy and wont read his stuff again after this…

Oh btw what's your fav band Ryan? Im curious to know.. :)

They are so far from simplicity it would make your head spin.

And by the way, I agree with you Daryn. There are many bands that are heavily devoted to their fans in the same way. I'm glad you noticed that. You are the most sensible one up here.
Why I was quick to judge was because Ryan made his lack of intelligence and immaturity pretty obvious. I'm not saying that you're wrong, I'm just saying that I disagree with Ryan, and I'm going to say what I want to. If I choose to stick up for my favorite band then I will do so. That's just how it works.

The song "For You' was off of their very first album, Greatest Lovesongs Vol. 666. Ville was still a teenager, and that is pretty damn good for someone of that age.

As the years have passed, Ville's lyrical style and songwriting has developed immensely and has become more stellar than ever.

Let me demonstrate for you, sweetheart:

You missed the winter and it followed you back home
Where the sun kissed the crimson footsteps in the melting snow
We are doing our best to disown the golden mean
By these acts of cruelty in the name of beauty to be free

The acoustic funeral for love in limbo
We're dancing with tags on our toes
I save my last breath for your window
To write you this song for the acoustic funeral

On the verge of a vow to kill all reason locking that door
To a nightmare within a nightmare we are bound to adore
Let the planchette in the shape of heart lie to me
And finally confirm all fears to be so real
    Be so real

The acoustic funeral for love in limbo
We're dancing with tags on our toes
I save my last breath for your window
To write you this song for the acoustic funeral

Underneath the ice so thin I am turning blue
The one last thing I know to be real is the shadow of you
    Killing love with a kiss

    Lest we have to fall
    For the acoustic funeral
    Killing love with a kiss

    Mindless?? Really??
I picked this song just for you since you seem to love it so much.

What's mindless is the shit I hear on the radio these days. It's all a bunch of bullshit that my little 3 year old brothers could come up with.

Awwww the poor baby can't handle our comments. You hate HIM even more now because of us? WOW you're even more close-minded than I thought.
If you were truly a class act you wouldn't have written such a load of garbage in the first place. Did you even read my first post? I write music reviews myself, and you are so far removed from "the industry" as you say. Well-received journalists know where the thin line between opinion and fact lies.

And to Jason: I'm not bashing you I'm just explaining, so don't be offended.
If I choose to use Valo in my online name, that's my choice. If people find it weird, then fuck 'em. I am what I am. It's a HIM thing, and we're not going to conform or be what society wants us to be. We don't aim to please or be normal. What's the point in trying to fit in when you're not being true to yourself? HIM is something that makes us happy so just get over it. You don't have to like them, just show some respect and dignity.

Yeah, Ryan, enjoy your 15 minutes of fame while it lasts.

My favorite part of all was where you were "mind molested by an out-of-date, coo-coo Finnish fairy in a blouse". hahahaha

To all the Young HIM fans that are posting stupid comments. GROW UP! Its fans like you that give HIM- the band a bad name. Not everyone is going to like/love the music. Which is fine by me, because most "fans" are NOT fans of the music but fans of Ville Valo. MOst of you guys don't know the true meaning of the songs.
And to Juila a true HIM fan would not be "rooting" for ya. A true HIM fan would be disgusted with what you're saying. The only HIM fans that are "rooting" for you are the little girls that make HIM fans look emo, gothic etc..
Going to a HIM show now is wayyy different then it was years ago. Nowadays you have girls screaming, CRYING, like if they were the backstreet boys. Back then it was a different scene, a older wiser, drinking scene. <— Dont know where that was coming from, but i HAD to get it off my chest!
    There! I said it.
Anyways, sorry for writing so much Ryan but i really can't stand HIM fans like that. I wish it was back to the old days. when HIM was making good music and the scene was better.

In response to whoever replied to me, please look at the comments posted and tell me that most of these people have even gotten to the age of 13.

I'm so glad the review hasn't been taken offline, lesser sites would have done that already. The people saying shit about the reviewer deserving to get beaten up or 'cut' deserve to take a long fucking look at themselves, because it reflects on the band badly, and it's YOUR FAULT.

'Tell me Ryan have you ever written a song? And I mean a song that was listened to by millions. Has any of your albums gone platinum, have you any idea what it takes to write a song?? I could keep these questions going all day and night, but we both know the answer, it would be NO… The great and wonderful thing about music is the choices we have… I don’t like pop music, but I don’t go slamming anyone who does. '

LOL but you'll slam someone who dares to have an opinion? You have a choice to STFU and you should exercise it. I'm betting there are bands that have done well that YOU don't like and don't give me any BS about 'nah i like all music' – BECAUSE NO-ONE DOES.
You probably don't like Miley Cyrus, but then she's a multi-millionaire and has sold multi-platinum numbers. Don't get me wrong, you act like you'd be in Miley Cyrus' age range but that's besides the point, you don't have to have written any song to have an opinion, because I doubt you've written Stairway to fucking Heaven.

'I for one don’t want HIM to go main stream, so the less that like them or listen to their music the better'

hahaha you sound so fucking pretentious!!! But seriously make your mind up: are they listened to millions and selling platinum albums OR are they NOT mainstream? Think long and hard, I'll be sure to reject any fucking answer you give. Idiot.

I'm not actually one of those fans, I just like having these heated discussions. It's quite amusing to me.
My friend Irkku on FB has been up here and thinks it's a riot too. Here's what she said to me in response to it all,
    I am quoting her :

"I don't think he realized just how hardcore HIM fans are, defensive little terriers aren't we, when they threaten our boys ♥ And all this emo, teenager crap, In a year and a half I'll be 40, but that moron wouldn't know the fan range or culture, and he's already decided what we are like…"

See, we're not all teenagers, she isn't and I'm not either. So chew on that.

She also said this: "All I know is if it's soooooooo bad, then why won't the music and lyrics get out of my head lol! At least i can admit to a bias lol!"

So there you have it. Yeah, we're ruthless but we're honest.

1st, I have to say, I don't know which is more ridiculous, the review, or the hub-bub that it's inspired!

We have 1 mans opinion. This man started out his review stating that he didn't like HIM, so it comes as a surprise that he dosen't like "Screamworks"…why?? Don't tell me you didn't see it coming!
Ryan, I have no idea who or what Finch is, except for a cute little bird, which I do enjoy watching, so, okay, I'll give you that. As for the rest of the music you mention in your profile…sorry, don't like 'em, but that's O.K, I don't need to. That's your gig, not mine.

2nd, I'm no teenybopper. haven't been for over 20 years, I do, however, like HIM, as well as The 69 eyes and Type O-…Oh, yeah! And Bette Midler (oooo dark and scary!)

3rd, Dude! Have you been to HotTopic lately? Please! It's gone all kinda of main stream…something we "goth" types avoid like the plague!
What, exactly, is wrong with wearing your clothes, those things that you take out of the closet and wear every day, to play your music? Is it a big problem that they don't dress up in a costume?? And, a blouse? Really??
Well, I guess not everyone can rock the beater.
Is what they wear that important? No, I didn't think so. Manscara and guyliner? So what? the Pharoh's did it as did many men throughout history.

Ry, sorry, but I doubt that I will ever have the experience of your writing talents again. It's nothing personal, i just rarely bother reading reviews, but I had to see what the big too-doo was over here!
I like what I like, and no one elses opinion really makes that big an impact.
I might, however, suggest that if you are again faced with the chore of reviewing a band you don't like, pass it off to one of your co workers. It would make life so much easier!

    To Annie.

I appreciated your earlier post saying I was right. Anyway, in response to your post..I'll break it down bit by bit then we can see who is right and who is wrong (spoiler: you're wrong).

I do not agree with gay insinuations, no. But I don't believe the reviewer did imply HIM were gay, just flamboyant. They are though, aren't they? They are. Read the review. Don't just read what some fucktard wrote about it.

Millions of sales = a mainstream artist so just stop denying that because you know that your retort made no sense. 'last I heard mainstream music was in the charts… HIM don’t need to be.' to sell millions of records means you get in the charts. Do you follow my logic? It's okay if you don't..I understand. You're a bit special. So I can break it down further for you. Millions of fans (I'd dispute that but I can't factually prove or disprove that) and millions of sales DOES make you mainstream. Being signed to Warner Bros. Records DOES make you mainstream. Why? Biggest record labels push their artists so that they are mainstream. Mainstream = sales, this is why these labels do so well.

I fail to grasp why you told me you have a Led Zeppelin album. I'll file that under 'NO-ONE FUCKING CARES'. Is English your first language? I said you hadn't written any song on the level of Staiway to Heaven, NOT that you'd never listened to it.

"Outside their lack of dress sense." Oh, shit I'm sorry, I mistook this for an ALBUM review.

What happened to constructive critisism? Saying "they're shit" is not constructive, nor is it a review. This is the most unproffessional pile of bullshit I have ever read in my life.
HIM are very talented musicians and they've come far for "Finnish faries in blouses"- as you so elegantly put it- and I don't know much about the technical aspect of the music industry but is it possible they'd have as many gold disks as they do, or even a record deal if Ville was talentless? I really doubt this, sir.

I could honestly go on and on about how much this so called "review" sucks more than Henry the Hoover. But I'm not going to because I'll probably end up getting passed off as a "stupid fangirl" who's just defending Ville because he's hot but really that isn't the case, I respect the band for their art and I've taken time to watch and read interviews to understand why they have done what they have done for this album and I appreciate the band for their art (YES, ART!) and all art needs constructive criticism, "I think its okay BUT", and not something like this which seems to care more about what they wear than what they sound like.

I too am holding an Acoustic Funeral for the brain cells YOUR "review" has killed!

Now onto your other bit of stuff, Which I didn't read, cause im guessing im twice as old as you, so maybe my idea of "mainstream" is a bit different, as you can see by my typing english is my 1st language. According to your dreary reply, you are twice my age. You are therefore a 44 year old HIM fan who defends a band at 3 o'clock in the morning. I hope life starts treating you well, dear.

I'll be concise because you apparently aren't reading all of my posts (liar):
    * If HIM aren't flamboyant, they shouldn't act this way in music videos and pictures. I haven't met them personally, but then nor have most of the people on this page and they are defending them.
    * I'm actually addressing your arguments DIRECTLY, to the point of addressing every single part. Therefore I cannot be respewing the 'same nasty crap'. I do however accept AND apologise for swearing so much.
    * It's spelt 'dictionary', dear. I wouldn't pick you up on that but you are being awfully elitist..

You have made me reconsider what I previously said. HIM fans are also morons. I mean it's a shame because some of you seem mature but most of you..really don't. It's a shame you didn't get the gist of what I was saying. You are all letting yourselves down.
Also, If my comments offend you then you can opt to ignore them, as I opted to ignore your previous ones that I disagreed with. It's hardly like my comments on this page are in the majority, is it?

Standing ovation @ Shakes' comment. I'd have to back that statement 100%. Always a true scholar & gentleman. hahaha

Now as far as the review. You didn't like it? Oh well, it's not your cup of tea. I get it. Maybe you should have thrown in some examples on what stood out as horrible on the album. That would've been interesting to read. I personally love the album, BUT there are sections that I wish were different or just weren't on the album. So yes, a longtime HIM fan can also think some elements of their albums don't sit well.

As far as the Davey Havok remark, I would sorta disagree. The only reason being, that everyone has a different perspective on what "talent" really is. AFI has been one of my favorite bands since that major surge of their music here in California in the late 90s, so to even say he's more talented than Valo just didn't interest me. I'm not agreeing nor disagreeing. To each his own. Again, maybe write on the reason for the comparison (scream, croon, etc)

Out of all the albums on your site's homepage, HIM & 30STM seem to stand out the most as far the genres on there. But I did read your THIS IS WAR review and it shows that you definitely know what you're doing, hence the site.

So, on behalf of myself and Shakes (if he agrees of course).

I apologize for the surge of immature fans that have nothing else to do but to start rumors, flame blogs that disagree or show any sign of negativity, and worship this band like there's no other. Trust me, we've dealt with them too, for years now. The true fans will always be mature about commenting on reviews like these and wouldn't act like some ridiculous 5yr old. Come on guys, be polite and stop making the rest of us look bad (as many of you ALWAYS do).

Wait… why are you HATING a band?? They make music, and if you don't like them, don't listen.
BUT,-and that's the point: a review HAS TO BE OBJECTIVE.
If you are not capable to do it in the right and proper way caused by personal issues, then let it be.
Personal opinions in a review,-an absolut no – go.
As a reviewer, you should know this.
Read the rules to do a music or album review, it sadly looks like you haven't done it.

"Be fair and impartial. Refuse to critique an album if you have a personal grudge or complete disdain for an artist that erases your objectivity."

    To Julia.

I hope that one day you, nor your imaginary boyfriend, have to go through the same level of insults as the reviewer of this piece. Someone has to defend the less-violent. So much for being loving, I hope people who are angry at me take time to find the posts that talk about the reviewer being cut and other disgusting things like that. If HIM is such a loving band, why are it's listeners so fucking vile and disgusting?

    Goodbye.

However, I wonder how many 43 year old mothers take their time to insult people half their age? Oh and gang up on said person with a bunch of others? I feel like that would be a bad sign of where humanity has got to if I were to see it in real life. Ah well.

And predictable I did notice "old dear" there… Yeah im old but I was in a mosh pit and spent almost 12 hours at a rock festival and pretty much partied for 3 days straight last weekend, Let me know when your my age if you can still do that ok?? LOL Oh I already sensed many posts ago just how cruel you could probably be, and I think everyone on here saw that too. Im actually seeing Ryan in a better light, you make him look like a kitten… If I lowered myself to your ways of insults to others, id actually be ashamed of myself… You have taken what was HIM argument to a personal level and that's quite childish.. I need to slap myself cause I keep replying to you, could be out of pity though..

And to all the haters, why do u keep coming back with all your comments? Get a life, focus rather on things you enjoy. If picking on others is something you enjoy, not only is there something wrong with you, all your credibility of having a good argument goes out the window.

By the way, this is probably THE ONLY bad review on Screamworks, shows alot about what you know, when a majority disagrees with you. ALl this hype, even the bad stuff, IS A GOOD THING. I believe telling others not to buy this 'horrendous' album just did the opposite. :D

HIM thanks you, Ryan, & all its haters, it keeps HIM on top. And especially thanks to all of the fans, youve obviously stood by HIM, youre all great.

Whether you dont like HIM or do, theyre obviously under your skin. :D thats a good thing. :) )

Thanks Ryan, really from the bottom of my hot topic- loving, black eyeshadow -wearing, BAM worshipping heart. :D

Sir, the THING you wrote is a completely personal attack to the band and nothing more. If your job is to review music, then you should write about THEIR NEW SONGS ONE BY ONE, explaining and ANALYZING why you do not think it's GOOD MUSIC, based on musical details to support your opinion (which you do not do of course). Sir, I'm really sorry but talking about "wearing a blouse" or "mans-cara" is not at all a professional review by a professional man who professionally listens to music, if you get what I mean. Apologies if you don't get me as I'm Greek and my English are poor, but would it be enough if I say that reading from a professional music reviewer a line like “There’s a track called ‘Acoustic Funeral’ and my God, I’d rather sit through a real funeral than listen to this song again" sounds hilarious; the least! You urgently need some seminars about reviewing music albums or change your job. You’re sooo professionally POOR. Greetings from Athens and HIM FOR LIFE sir… of course! p.s. Too bad Ville Valo manages to enthuse females that bad… It’s a thing that makes some men really nervous often (you can call it envious hate); I’m really sorry that you’re obviously one of them but you’ll get over it, at least I wish you to. Cheers!

This should pretty much sum up how the world feels about HIM and the lonely people that obviously worship them as though they were Gods…

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vAFEG1LZzI

Id like to say, I think its obvious he was complementing FINCH or AFI. He said the vocals reminded him of Davey Havoc so if he hated Ville vocals obviously he hate Daveys. Morons, and he wrote a review of the album as an experience. The look of a band, their style and music is all inclusive. People bash slipknot because of their masks and MudVayne for the same. He wrote this review and seems like he had fun with it. You all need to take a joke and see a psychiatrist.

Its one thing to like a band and their music but to get to this level. You are all CRAZY, please understand im not just insulting you Its a fact. You are all INSANE. HIM doesn't care about you personally, they want fans so they know what to say at live shows but when it comes down to it they are in it for the money, plus they enjoying being worshiped. When you are all burning in hell because thats where Satan (the guys you all worship) lives just in case you were unaware. you might be regretting worshiping false gods and ignoring your parents. Please get help, you pathetic wastes of people. Theres a reason why nobody at school likes you and this sums it up.

SAD PATHETIC LONELY UNLOVED PEOPLE. lose some weight, fix yourself up a little and join society and those of you who will argue and say you have jobs and are normal. Im ashamed you think that fake exterior makes you normal. Look in the mirror, not one person commenting has any talent , skill or backround in the industry other than listening to HIM 24 hours and thats just making you more dumb.

It’s all been said and done, time to move on and live life, so just let it be. Just the fact that it’s gotten to personal threats is absolutely ludicrous.
I appreciate the fact that everyone has extreme passion for an artist and/or their music, but to stoop to the levels that some have is borderline insanity.

I hate it when they get called Hot Topic. His lyrics are amazing. I dont know, HIM is one of those you either love or hate, and obviously, this proves it. I personally think they are amazing. Haha, looks like you're getting a lot of negative feedback. Well I agree 100% with this review.

Nothing is unique, nothing is original. It's just bland shitrock. I never really heard of HIM until now. I went out and bought their album at Best Buy, and by god, that was the worst 10 dollars I ever spent in my life. I ended up giving it away, but that's another story.

    For example.

    "Scared to Death"

I'm not afraid to say 'I love you'
any more than I used to be, babe
I am scared to death, I am scared to death
    to fall in love.

Is that unique? Same lyrics you would find in any Alesana song. Try to find a song by HIM that doesn't have the word BABE in it.

    Anyways, thats my two cents.

Best of luck with your site.

I have many thing to say to both side.
Firstly, I am 27 years old, and have been a fan of HIM since 2000.
One of the things i would like to say is, this review i am sorry was written very unproffesionally, especially when looking at other album reviews. The songs weren't even explained properly.

What you wrote didn't bother me. Ofcource, people cannot love the same thing, theres no write or wrong answer when it comes to opinions, its just the matter of fact explaining them properly.
People who shouldnt abuse one another, go trying to fight behind the screens by searching album reviews and throwing it back at each other. Its stupid and a waste of time. None of them are going to convince fans, because yet again its there own opinion.

Now to all the HIM fans that got upset and/or keep whining:
First of all, i don't understand why yous are getting upset for? Its just a review, not a defenite proven fact. Just because someone says something about the band, doesnt make it true.
And please stop whining, i dont want to start any fights now, but alot of HIM fans that cannot take a opinion and whine about it usually gives all the HIM fans a bad name. Theres no need to write silly comments and make yourself look like an idiot. I do appreciate all the HIM fans that actually respect their opinions and don't get upset about it. Keep it up =D

When it comes to HIM. I have to admit, in my opinion HIM is a hard band to warm to for some. I do believe they change over many years, but they always come up with unique sounds and lyrics that always have a meaning to it. Every song of theres are meaningful, when listened to properly its just great. There last album, was quite different. Took me about a day of listening to actually love it. Its just that something new is hard to get use to me thinks. I would proberbly give there last album 7.5/10

    Take care peeps

Just my opinion: HIM is the best band, ever. Valo is the best singer. "Screamworks- Love in Theory and Practice" is the best album. EVER.

Your review, on the other hand, sucks. You cling to your pre-determined image of the band throughout, even though this band changes with every album, and actually, every day that goes by. Their "style" changes with the winds. So your describing them as being "goth" or "effiminate" is ridiculous.

I could actually see you in a tutu, dancing to "Single Ladies" though….

Clearly I am late showing up for the party. But!

I landed on this site via an Ice Nine Kills review, which was good. I then read a review on Cradle of Filth, then one on Gwar, and several others. which were all good. Clearly by my taste in COF and Gwar, I'm not a die hard metal fan, but I do enjoy the genre. Then, just for shits and giggles, I decided to type in "Screamworks" in the search bar, seeing as how it's HIM's latest album and if any were to be reviewed it'd probably be that one.

Now, as a HIM fan, I've read a LOT of reviews on this band and their albums. And trust me, not everyone loves this band. In fact, it's been quite obvious throughout the years that people either LOVE or HATE this band. But at the same time, reviewers of this band will often start off by saying "I'm not into this band, but they are good at what they do" and proceed to say things like "the songs are catchy, the keyboards provide a lot of ambience, and to be honest it's just as difficult to write a catchy song as it is anything else so let's be open minded to the fact that this is CLEARLY pop music with guitars."

Ok, fine. Obviously, once again, not everyones favorite band. This album in particular had tons of good reviews. In fact in the year or so it's been out I've not read one bad review…till now.

While this review was hilarious (granted I'm a fan of things like jay and silent bob and southpark so obviously my humor is toilet humor at best) and the extreme HIM bitchfest comment section that followed was equally as amusing, I have to say this was one of the worst reviews I've ever read haha, not just for HIM but for any album ever. Not that my opinion means anything to anyone but myself, BUT they had this lovely little empty box down here and I just couldn't help myself.

Then again, to be honest, I typed in "Screamworks" on this site thinking "oh boy! this is gonna be fun! this is a METAL site, and NO ONE hates this band more than stereotypical metal fans" and oh lordy was I right haha.

Anyways. I'm not an angry HIM fan come to trash the site. I actually enjoy a number of the reviews on this site. But really, dear god man, I'm fearful to read anymore of these hate fueled reviews. This is just silly. I've met many, many metal fans that hate this band just as much as you that could at least provide an in depth analysis. Yes, this album is pop. I'm talking like…Bon Jovi pop (uh oh, did I just start another argument by bringing up Bon Jovi?!?! I am on a metal site…) I just don't understand the sheer lack of musical respect in this review, and it just comes off as a stereotypical beer/hate fueled metal monger whining.

In closing, I beg to ask, gentleman who reviewed this album, did an ex-girlfriend of yours leave you for someone who was a HIM fan? Did something awful happen in your life that had something to do with this band? This review has a lot of issues behind it. It's ok, you can open up to me. It'll all be ok. I've enraged a number of metal heads by stealing their girlfriends while spoting a HIM shirt and eyeliner, believe me I understand your anger, and I'd be angry too if I were you. I'm only here to help Mr. Reviewer sir, that's what us Love Metal people are here for…Oh god…I just vomited in my own mouth…I forgot how awful the term "love metal" was. Now I remember why metal heads hate them. Oh well. Cheers mate!

Oh, by the way, Lee, I loved your review on Dommin, the wonderful little pop goth Type O/Danzig hybrid band who opened for HIM on tour most recently.

But, Lee, what did you think of Screamworks? Not the banter that followed the review, but the actual album itself. I only ask because your review on Dommin was such that I'm now very curious to see what your opinion on Screamworks would've been had you done a review. I just find the two bands very similar in a lot of ways. If you listened to it that is. Just wondering! No harm no foul either way.

In all honesty, I thought this review was ridiculous, far too extreme and dramatic. I'm a HIM fan and will happily admit Screamworks is my least favourite album of all, with its straight to the point, three minute songs. However the fact that someone has mentioned that HIM's music is unintelligent is laughable, and shows you need to go educate yourself in the matter. My favourite albums being Greatest Love Songs Vol. 666, Razorblade Romance, and Deep Shadows and Brilliant Highlights, which I believe clearly show intelligence, depth and spontaneity.

''By your heart strings I'm hanging from a dream,
Gently swinging in the warm autumn breeze.
Tip toeing along a strand of your hair suspended between,
These thoughts and actions miles above reality.''

I would like to know how those lyrics are unintelligent….

Still love the album, and it's my opinion. :)

Bigger controversies?? Ahhhhh, now I see.
WOW. What exactly do you guys depict as "good music"?

By the way, that album's been out for awhile now. Still love it, either way. Claire is gonna flip out though, I can see her now.

All you guys ever know how to do is put people down, and write negativity on reviews. Are there any positive ones up here to read?

Again, thank you Gabriel for actually having something positive to say.

Yep, tons of good stuff to say. Take a look around. You might find something you agree with. If you do, please leave a comment. :)

Oh, and just an FYI – Ryan, the writer who wrote this review, is no longer a writer here.

I find it kind of funny that Screamworks and Nightmare are the only two reviews that have really garnered such a response…two negative reviews of overrated bands. *shrugs*
And oh lord the rabid fans. Reminds me of any George Romero movie. Zombies.

I have a gripe with internet sarcasm…I can never seem to convey it well. Oh well, at least I tried.

And yeah, hope your interview goes well. Awesomeness. *sigh*

No I've read more than just those two reviews. I just didn't feel like wasting life commenting on every single article up here.
Why do that when I could read something that notices the good and the talent in established musicians, not their fashion sense?

Ahhh yes, sarcasm. *le sigh* The necessary evil of the world.

Well, image is an important part of bands too. Would Marilyn Manson be anywhere without being a total freak?

If the music's good, I could give a shit about the image, take Motionless in White as an example. :)

I used to love this band. The first 2 albums of theirs were truly greats. I idolised HIM. EverSince Love Metal they lost the thread, and Venus Doom was only a desperate attempt to get back on track, which evantually is deemed unsuccessful after having realesed this nill record.
Hey Ville.. if you read this, please consider your plans again, and try to be as influential as you used to be, during 1999-2002. You lost your balls, there is no bite in your music anymore, that makes me sad..

Mmk… I do not agree with the review, but all of the uber HIM fans still commenting on this is rediculous. This is in fact the ONLY record I enjoy by them, and who gives a shit if it got a bad review, it's ones persons perception and opinion of the music. Is it gonna stop you from listening and enjoying the record? NO.
