Our Review Of DANZIG’s Deth Red Sabaoth Removed
We recently received a request from DANZIG’s label to remove the three 30 second clips posted on our review of Deth Red Sabaoth. Since we always post audio clips from albums we review, we decided to remove the entire review. We’re not bending the rules for anyone – not even the almighty Danzig. Sorry.
While you’re here, check out our other reviews.

Well, unless you had permission from Danzig, then they shouldn't have been up there in the first place. And it seems infantile to remove an entire review, which is in apparent protest of the request made.

Hey Justin,
Actually it’s not "infantile" at all to remove the review. We stream three 30 second clips on EVERY review that we post here on our site. We will use the clips that Amazon provide or if needed, cut up our own. It’s totally legal and allows the reader to read the review, listen to the samples and make up their own mind. With all the labels that we work with all over the globe, we have NEVER….let me say this again, NEVER had anyone request that clips be taken down until now. Actually, bands, labels and publicists seem to really like the fact that we do this.
I decided to take down the review out of principle. It is our policy to stream clips and that will continue to be our policy. People come to the site because of that, so why should I cheat them because of one person? Should I continue to give him FREE press when we are doing nothing wrong? Yea, I don't think so…
Like I said before, I don't care who you are or what your reputation is…quit whining and let the music do the talking.
Thanks for commenting,

i agree with steve. you give these bands free press and then he wants to bitch about 30 second clips. What a tool! I guess he probably didnt want people to hear his shitty album before it was released. From what I heard it sounded like a bag of ass anyway. Good riddance to that has been anyway.

While every musician deserves respect towards their opinion and wishes, I do not see anything wrong with Lee taking down the review. In essence, the artist had their wishes granted in a roundabout and fair way – if they want to swim upstream against a convenient method of sampling the music intended for the listener, then they should expect to receive little to no help in their pursuit of publicity.
We are talking three thirty-second clips of music. A total of 1:30 out of a much lengthier album. Most bands complain about a lack of publicity – but overexposure in this case? Let the artist have their way but do not do them any favors in return, there are many other artists who would rejoice for the type of coverage provided here.

I don't see anything wrong with removing the review as a whole. It's either a full review which includes snippets of 3 songs, or it's nothing. That's how it's always worked. If and when Danzig decides to release snippets of the songs to the public via Amazon and/or iTunes, then I would say the review could then be put back up.

Aside from being a die hard fan of all things Glenn Danzig related, I must say that him being an asshole is part of his charm/image. It makes me love him even more when I hear about stuff like this, I think it's hilarious because Glenn is always doing stuff like this!
My comment is in no way a negative comment towards your page, I dug the review and thought it was cool that you put up some clips. It really got me pumped about the album!
I just wanted to chime in on how hilarious Glenn's meany man ways are sometimes.

The label requested the samples be removed, not Danzig himself. Big difference. Glenn himself is likely not aware of any of this anyhow, or even that this site exists.

Nobody said Danzig requested they be removed, did they? I don't see that anywhere.
But I just checked and the label is Evilive Records. Guess who's in charge of that label. Hmm….

The first post said "when you have permission from Danzig", and Daryn said "when Danzig decides to release snippets".
Evillive is his imprint, but he is signed to The End Records for this release. They deal with marketing, distribution, PR, etc.
Guess who doesn't understand the music industry? hmm….

That said, I completely agree with Lee on how he handled it.

I said "Danzig" collectively, which includes his label. I was just passive about it. Their marketing execs probably requested the samples be removed because it breached their timeline, etc. They also should've been clear about whether or not samples could be posted. I've encountered a lot of bands where they have no samples anywhere on the web and never have a problem with us chopping up 30 second samples to post here on TNR.

I agree with Brian, at 5/25 12:01 AM, this is the kind of thing that Danzig just does; there's no rhyme or reason to it outside of whatever thought is in his head at the moment. Just like the shitty albums that he put out after Danzig 4. Sometimes Glenn makes really bizarre, and/or asshole-ish decisions, but as die hard fans we've come to enjoy it, as weird as that may sound. Other Glennophiles will know what we mean. But in all serious Deth Red Sabaoth is going to be an AMAZING album, and a true return to form by the Evil Elvis.
