Suburbia In Ruins saw the light two years ago, somewhere in between Bruges & Ghent in Belgium, five companions decided to share their passion for music.
After a few months of taking it up in the rehearsal basement, SIR recorded their 2 first demo tracks in quite a hurry at BY Studios to feed the MySpace player demands. They served their purpose well as S.I.R. rocked their first 30 shows in about 9 months of their 1 year existence.
Suburbia In Ruins took home first place at a local battle of the bands – Cirque Constance-Rock rally van het Meetjesland – ensuring the band with 2 days of free recording time at Sweet & Sour Studios (owned by Niek Tournois, singer of Spoil Engine). A local TV station AVS, came down especially for SIR and made a report about their victory that day.
July 2008 : S.I.R. hits the studios for the recording of their demo-EP, with a total day count of 7 official recording days (+ extra chip-in’s). Many editing, mixing, re-amping, synth-adding, vocal – re-recording hours later, the final mix was mastered at Split Second studios by Jochem Jacobs (Textures). It wasn’t until the beginning of December that the tracks could be considered as finished.
S.I.R.’s first demo-EP Undirected was released on the 13th of March with also a matching music video up on Youtube. Belgium’s national radioshow ‘Whiplash’ picks up the track “The Greatest Love Is A Murderer’s Thirst” and puts it in their playlist. Very positive reviews appear in respected magazines as Aardschok, Rock Tribune & Mindview, even an enthusiastic 5/5 on the Polish Metalcentre website.
All of this and the great response of the fans encourages the band to work on a full album to be recorded with producer Sven Janssens (Aborted) and engineer Huub Reijnder (Green Day, Kaiser Chiefs,…).
You can expect Melodic Metalcore brought to you by gentlemen, S.I.R.!
