Band Bio

Hailing out of Lexington Kentucky, Society’s Plague has been dropping jaws and hurting necks in the south-eastern metal scene since early 2006. The band has built a solid following with its unique blend of heavy breakdowns, fast metal riffs, powerful vocals, dual guitar harmonies and almost symphonic keyboards.

Quoting Louisville Music News writer Eddy Metal, “The music is energetic, melodic thrash metal with cool keyboards, very Euro-sounding, maybe Fear Factory meets Iron Maiden meets All That Remains. The songwriting is good, and the melodies instantly draw you in.” “They have heaviness, clean, pretty guitar parts, speed blasts, pretty piano work, fat, chugging guitar riffs, and some nice screams mixed with real singing. The guitarwork is impressive, the tones scorching. Nice equipment. Their duo guitarwork concentrates more on melody and groove more than showing off.”

Society’s Plague is made of six different creative fronts. Joe Royer and Roger Clem work the guitars bringing heavy riffs and melodic harmonies to the table while drummer Jd and bassist Mike Smith add the unique intensity and structure to the mix. Kate shows off the heavy European metal influence with powerful moving keyboards while frontman Matt Newton uses a dynamic of catchy singing choruses and haunting harsh vocals. In his own words Matt states “It takes every one of us to create the sound that we have, we all have our own influences and messages that we bring to the table and that we want Society’s Plague to represent. It takes all of us to make Society’s Plague.”

Over the years Society’s Plague has had the privilege of sharing the stage with some of today’s biggest metal bands including: Disturbed, Killswitch Engage, In Flames, Chimaira, Lacuna Coil, Unearth and many more. Through their debut EP “The Mercy Untold” released in 2008 and much hard work, the band gained many loyal fans, not only nationally but internationally as well with solid fan bases in Western Europe and Australia.

The band has started to record their new full length album with Ben Schigel, and Tony Gammalo of Spider Studios, which will be released later this year.
